Diagnosis of mental disorders
Diagnosis of mental health problems should only be made by a qualified person, typically psychiatrists although some psychotherapists such as clinical psychotherapists may be qualified to diagnose as well.(citation needed)
Dissociative disorders[edit]
Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES)[edit]
The dissociative experiences scale is a self-report questionnaire, and a useful screening tool for DID and OSSD but is not a diagnostic test. It also includes a subset of items which can be used to assess depersonalization and derealization (Kennedy, 2013).
Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation (MID)[edit]
The MID is a self-administered diagnostic instrument which was designed to diagnose all dissociative disorders by comprehensively assessing the entire domain of dissociative phenomena, including PTSD, severe borderline personality disorder and all dissociative disorders (Chu, 2011). It was developed by Paul F. Dell.
Dissociative Disorders Interview Schedule (DDIS)[edit]
The DDIS is a structured clinical interview for all dissociative disorders and assesses a number of other diagnoses in addition, including schizophrenia and borderline personality disorder.
Somatoform Dissociation Questionnaire (SDQ)[edit]
There are two questionnaires, the SDQ-20 and the SDQ-5. They assess physical symptoms commonly associated with dissociative disorders, also known as somatoform symptoms.
Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Dissociative Disorder (SCID-D)[edit]
The SCID-D is a structural clinical interview for dissociative disorders. It must be professionally administered, and includes judgement from a trained clinician in the scoring (Steinberg, 1993).
The Structured Clinical Interview for Derealization-Depersonalization Spectrum (SCI-DER)[edit]
Depersonalization including derealization can be particularly difficult to define and measure. The SCID-D is the a reliable diagnostic tool for these disorders, but the SCI-DER questionnaire may also be helpful.
Cambridge Depersonalization Scale (CDS)[edit]
This is a self-report questionnaire which consists of 29 items, each rated by severity (Kennedy, 2013).
The Steinberg Depersonalization Test[edit]
This was also created by Dr Marlene Steinberg, and is a self-report questionnaire which can be taken and scored online.[4]
